TRENTON (November 17, 2025) – Winning the top prize in a lottery game, any lottery game, is a once-in-a-lifetime event…for most people. One New Jersey couple aren’t like most people. They have won big twice just in the past six months.

The couple with two children and a third very much on the on the way proudly presented their winning Jackpot Millions winning Scratch-Off ticket, good for $3 million, purchased at the Fischer Bay Exxon, 826 Fischer Boulevard, Toms River, in Ocean County. The odds of winning one of the three top prizes in the newly released $30 game is roughly one in 2 million.

It is indeed incredible to win. However, the couple has traveled this astonishing path in the recent past—on April 1, no less. That’s when they won the $1 million top prize in the $1,000,000 Ultimate Spectacular, also purchased in Ocean County. The odds of winning the top prize in that $30 game are more than one in 1 million.

The combined odds of winning both are roughly 1 in two trillion. For comparison’s sake, a player would be 1.2 million times more likely to be hit by a meteorite.

“I’ve always said that you only need one ticket to win big,” New Jersey Lottery Director James Carey said. “But I guess, in this case two tickets certainly didn’t hurt! This is just pure blind luck.”

While New Jersey’s players took home nearly $2 billion in prizes last year, Lottery products are designed to provide entertainment. They aren’t to be considered an income source.

New Jersey Lottery winners are legally allowed to remain anonymous. However, the couple felt free to discuss how they play the Lottery and how the multiple wins have helped their lives.

For the busy Ocean County couple with a 5-year-old and an 11-month old, they sorely need down time and entertainment.

“With our kids, we can’t really get out of the house,” the husband said. “So at the beginning of the month, we get some (Scratch-Off) tickets. When the kids go to bed, we scratch a few off. We like to make it a bit of a competition--who can win the most. It seems we at least always break even.”

It’s their version of “Netflix and Chill.” Except in this case, things weren’t chill for long.

The husband started scratching, and he thought they might’ve won something before he handed the card to his wife.

“I looked at it, held it to my chest and screamed,” she said of the $3 million prize.

“Ten seconds later, she’s laughing. This is perfect,” the husband said before telling his wife: “Babe, we got luck on our side.”

After the first prize—the million-dollar win--the couple celebrated. “Maybe we celebrated a bit too much,” the wife said, patting her belly.

She’s five-months pregnant and waiting for their third child.

The two prizes will go a long way to allowing the growing family to control their own destiny.

• Nov. 14: Crossword Xtreme: $600,000; Krauser’s, 1263 Broad Street, Bloomfield, Essex County. The $30 ticket has one of three top prizes remaining.
