Nine Big Winners in One Day Start the Week; a $1 Million Scratch-Off Closes It Out

TRENTON (Oct. 17, 2024) – The previous week in New Jersey was lucrative for 26 New Jersey Lottery players, who collectively won more than $3 million in cash prizes exceeding $10,000.

Monday, Oct. 7, was particularly remunerative for nine winners. Three draw participants and six Scratch-Off players combined to win nearly $800,000, with the top winner landing the Jersey Cash 5 jackpot of $413,896 at J&M Grocery in the Essex County city of Newark. Meanwhile, John’s Liquors & Deli in Hudson County’s Kearny sold a $200,000 winner in the Triple Golden Cherries Scratch-Off game.

The hot week continued, proving anything can and does happen in Jersey. A Robbinsville Quick Check in Mercer County on Oct. 9 sold a winning $400,000 Crossword Bonanza Scratch-Off. On Oct. 10 at the Sayreville Exxon, a player claimed another Cash 5 Jackpot of $284,169.

After all those wins, a big Scratch-Off winner on Oct. 13 put an exclamation point on the week by hitting the top prize on the $1,000,000 Spectacular sold at Exxon on the Run in Bergen County’s Fort Lee.

A 2020 New Jersey law allows lottery winners to remain anonymous indefinitely, and the identity of winners will not be included in materials available to public inspection under the State’s Open Public Records Act. Players claiming Lottery prizes worth $600.00 or more must still provide their identity to Lottery officials in order to claim a prize. The New Jersey Lottery is still required by law to withhold state and federal taxes from certain prizes awarded. The New Jersey Lottery also shares the identity of winners with other State agencies, and claims are reviewed for collection of unpaid obligations such as child support, student loan arrearages, and back taxes.
